On the 27th of September 1825, around 600 passengers rode a steam-powered railway engine, Locomotion No. 1, between the English towns of Shildon and Stockton. This landmark event is classified as the first ever steam-powered passenger train to run on a public railway - and it began a transport revolution!
In celebration of this important day, The Royal Mint has produced a classic £2 commemorative, DOUBLE THICKNESS collectable coin. Minted from sterling silver, with gold-plating on the outer ring, no more than 1350 of this special commemorative coin will be issued individually.
