Written and illustrated by Dick Roughsey, a Lardil man from Mornington Island in Queensland, The Rainbow Serpent was first published 50 years ago, in 1975. Still in publication today, this invaluable children’s book has been read by and to generations of youngsters over five decades.
As part of their ongoing annual book series, the Royal Australian Mint has chosen to honour Te Rainbow Serpent for the fifth and final release of the range.
As such, the mint created a special edition book, bearing an Australian 20c Collector coin set into the cover of the very book it celebrates.
Only 5,000 books released.
