Without Guglielmo Marconi, we may never have experienced the sounds of Kyle Sandilands across Australian radio waves... Tinkering with technology proposed earlier by James Clerk Maxwell, Marconi was able to create and demonstrate the world's first radio wave broadcast. That technology went on to be used by military and government until further advancements led to actual audio broadcasts. And, eventually, Kyle Sandilands...
For better or worse, Marconi is credited with the invention of radio and this official Italian coin celebrates the 150th anniversary of his birth. Coincidentally, 2024 also marked the 100th anniversary of the first programmed radio broadcast in Italy!
Minted from sterling silver and patriotically coloured, only 4,000 of this special issue were produced, with few making it out of Italy.
