Though Robin Hood kicked off The Royal Mint's Myths & Legends coin series way back in 2021, neither the theme nor designs have actually appeared in the collector series properly - only on huge mintage, low premium coins. Finally, in late 2023, that gap was filled! And now, in 2024, the 2nd edition in the Myths & Legends Collector Range is... Maid Marian!
Generally thought to be the wife (or lover!) of Robin Hood, the famous Outlaw of Sherwood Forest, Maid Marian has appeared alongside her beau in countless poems, ballads, yarns, and films over the centuries.
According to some accounts, Marian was of Royal blood; According to others, she was of, perhaps, more Christian origin... Either way, Maid Marian is celebrated here, by The Royal Mint, standing elegantly, with her own quiver of arrows, in Sherwood Forest, watching events from behind a tree.
