HMS Belfast has seen some things! Launched in 1938, then commissioned, officially, just before World War II began in 1939, the Royal Navy ship went on to play an important role in the Battle of North Shore and the sinking of the German battleship, Scharnhorst. Not only that, she played a part in the Normandy Landings as part of Operation Overlord, sailed to the Far East with the British Pacific Fleet, and saw action during the Korean War!
In celebration of this epic soldier, The Royal Mint has produced a classic, DOUBLE-THICKNESS £2 commemorative, collectable coin. Minted from sterling silver, with gold-plating on the outer ring, no more than 1,948 of this Piedfort commemorative coin will be issued.
