Author George Orwell was one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century. His book, Animal Farm, published 80 years ago in 1945 took a sharp edged look at the Soviet Revolution via the use of pompous pigs and other farmyard beasties. Perhaps his most famous novel though is 1984, a vicious prediction of a dystopian future.
Taking inspiration from 1984, The Royal Mint has produced a classic £2 commemorative, collectable coin. Bearing a design of an all-seeing eye, we are reminded that, always, "BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU".
Minted from sterling silver, with gold-plating on the outer ring, no more than 4,500 of this commemorative coin will be issued.
