The story ends here - the final coin issue from NZ Post.
As the last new coin design from NZ Post, this milestone piece represents the conclusion of NZ Post's long-standing role in issuing New Zealand commemorative coins. This exceptional rectangular coin celebrates a special example of Aotearoa New Zealand's unique native fauna, which has been a fixture of the coin programme.
Aotearoa New Zealand is known to be home to more than 5,000 beetle species, most of which are endemic. It's estimated that the real number of local beetle species could be up to 10,000. The mānuka beetle (Pyronota festiva), known by Māori as kerewai, is an endemic scarab beetle. It is closely related to other beetles in the Scarabaeidae family that are found in other parts of the world.
A rectangular two ounce, 99.9% pure silver coin, the manuka beetle appears in high relief, with iridescent colour.
Limited mintage of just 400 coins.
