The sixth release in the Royal Australian Mint's annual 14-sided 50c series, the 2017 Tetradecagon Rooster is special specifically because of its shape. With normal Australian 50c coins struck in a 12-sided, dodecagonal shape, the tetradecagon adds two extra sides! Only released once a year, for the Lunar New Year, this coin type is rarely seen around the world, let alone in Australia!
Issued initially in 2012, for the Year of the Dragon, this Year of the Rooster coin ultimately saw a tiny 15,000 coins released - most of which, obviously, disappeared into the collector ether!
