The year 2001 was an intriguing one for the Armed Forces of Australia - each of the Airforce, Army, and Navy found themselves celebrating significant anniversaries! Naturally, that led to the Royal Australian Mint creating commemorative one dollar Australian coins for each celebration.
Founded, officially, in 1921, the RAAF reached 80 years in 2001. Renamed the Royal Australian Navy in 1911, the Nation's marine armed force celebrated 90 years in 2001. And the Australian Army, founded in 1901 just after Federation, celebrated a centenary of service in 2001.
Each of these official Royal Australian Mint coins is as good as the day they left the mint. All still exhibit delightful brightness, and each is housed in its own, uncreased presentation card.
Neither the Airforce nor Navy coins feature a privy mark, whereas the Army $1 bears an 'S' for Sydney mark.
