East India Co. 2016/17 Bicentenary Guinea & Sovereign Gold Proof 2-Coin Set
When the British Government undertook the process that became known as The Great Recoinage of 1816, two of the key coins involved were the Gold Guinea, and Gold Sovereign. Up until 1816, the 8.4 gram gold guinea circulated denominated at 21 shillings (£1.05). From 1817, the Guinea was replaced by the slightly smaller, newly refurbished gold sovereign coin, denominated at a lower 20 shillings (£1).
This amazing Premium Gold Proof Set brings together the two modern commemorative coins issued in honour of those historic coins from 1816/1817.
Pairing the East India Company's 2016 Bicentennial Gold Guinea Proof with the Royal Mint's 2017 Bicentennial Gold Sovereign Proof, this special presentation was issued under a criminally small limited edition of just 100 sets!
