Beautifully, and respectfully, the Royal Australian Mint's 2022 Australian Annual Coin Set honours our Frontline Workers - those workers that continue to toil selflessly through a global pandemic. Whilst much of the country has been shut down, in isolation, or in lockdown for large periods over the past two years, our hospital and medical workers have continued to battle the tide.
Regardless of your opinion of the global scourge, Australia’s frontline workers deserve our recognition and plaudits. And it is telling too, that the Mint has decided to use the most popular collector denomination in the land - the $2 coin - to bear this tribute.
This 2022 $2 coin features a pictogram design of 12 Frontline Workers linking hands around a central coloured motif representing all Australians and is unlikely to ever enter circulation.
