First formed in 1922 at the Sydney Royal Agricultural Show, the Country Women’s Association branched out all over Australia, across all 7 states and territories. Lasting for a full century, the CWA gave rural women a voice on issues relevant to their communities. Recent initiatives have focused on alcohol and mental health research, as well as the National Drought Strategy - plus, of course, the well-known CWA Cookbook!
Sadly, as the Royal Australian Mint honours the CWA centenary, news comes through that the national association will no longer operate. Technological advancements and differing goals will see each State move forward with its own individual CWA... This new 2022 coin thus celebrates the beginnings, and commemorates the end, of the national Country Women’s Association of Australia.
