One of the original fossil hunters, Mary Anning wandered the coastline near her home in Dorset, England during the early 19th century, uncovering a remarkable array of prehistoric marine life. Though she was not so recognised in her day, her discoveries changed the face of prehistoric marine research.
The second in a series of three coins honouring this great British Scientist, this official UK 50p features the long-necked marine reptile, Plesiosaurus. Possessing a long neck and four flippers, the Plesiosaurus is perhaps best envisaged as looking exactly like the mythical (or is it real?) Loch Ness Monster!
Created in conjunction with the British Natural History Museum in London, each Plesiosaurus 50p is housed in a die-cut presentation pack, jammed with facts about fossil reptiles!
