2021 UK 50p Mary Anning - Dimorphodon Silver Proof
One of the original fossil hunters, Mary Anning wandered the coastline near her home in Dorset, England during the early 19th century, uncovering a remarkable array of prehistoric marine life. Though she was not so recognised in her day, her discoveries changed the face of prehistoric marine research.
The third and final in a series of three coins honouring this great British Scientist, this official UK 50p takes to the skies! Though Mary was known for her marine life discoveries, she also famously unearthed the first Pterosaur (or 'winged lizard') to be found outside of continental Europe, the Dimorphodon - an immensely important discovery!
Created in conjunction with the British Natural History Museum in London, each Dimorphodon 50p is struck from sterling silver and features a full colour depiction of this ancient flying reptile. Each coin in the limited mintage of 7,000 is housed in a perspex display case with certificate and colourful outer box!
