Though perhaps a minor character in the Greek Mythological realm, Icarus is conversely well known due to his tale of failure. Given wings made of feathers and wax by his father, Icarus joined his Dad in an attempt to escape Crete by flying over the city walls. Warned not to fly to close to the sun, Icarus arrogantly ignored his father's advice, flew too high, melting the wax on his wings.... he fell to his death, drowning in the sea below.
Icarus's story is the subject of the first coin in a new Mythology series. Irregularly shaped, and packed full of detail, Icarus plummeting to the sea as his Dad watches helplessly, makes for a dramatic scene and an excellent collector coin.
Struck from two ounces of 99.9% pure silver, the Icarus coin is limited to 500 issued worldwide.
