Thought by its discoverer in 1876 to be the funerary mask of a legendary Mycenaean King, the Mask of Agamemnon is made from solid gold and dates back to at least the period of the Trojan War. Unearthed by Heinrich Schliemann as part of a wider archaeological dig of Mycenaean burial sites, the Mask has since gained an amount of celebrity for its beauty and potential importance.
A massive 55mm in diameter, this large coin celebrates the Mask of Agamemnon in beautiful style. Struck from three ounces of 99.9% pure silver, each coin features high relief, high detailed minting on both sides, giving the viewer a wonderful feel of the golden mask itself. Selectively plated in pure gold, the coin is limited to a low mintage of just 500 coins worldwide.
