Without any tank support -the heaviest artillery unit had already departed Vietnam - the fire fight lasted throughout the night, with aid from RAAF and USAF air support.
By morning, the North Vietnamese were gone and five Australian soldiers had perished. the last to die as a result of conflict in Vietnam.
