An Abbey, built on a tidal island to the North West of France, near Normandy, Mont St Michel has been many things over the years. Its tidal nature - meaning that it is accessible during low tide, and completely surrounded by water in high tide - has allowed it some quite unique defence strategies over the centuries. For instance, during the Hundred Years War in the 1400s, a small group was able to fend off the English attacks!
This official French legal tender coin, struck by the Monnaie De Paris, features Mont St Michel during high tide, with an artistic reflection depicting the main architectural styles, in the water.
Struck from 90% silver, limited to a mintage of just 3000, and housed in a case with certificate of authenticity.
