2018 50c Western Front - Villers-Bretonneux CuNi Unc
Important for the first use of tanks by the German forces, The Battle of Villers-Bretonneux thus also became the first ever tank on tank military offensive! After German troops captured the town of Villers-Bretonneux in 1918, Australian soldiers and British tanks were deployed in an attempt to take it back.
After a face-off between three German tanks and three British tanks, the town was eventually recaptured, fittingly for the Aussies, on April 25th, 1918.
This Australian legal tender coin commemorates this important battle of The Great War and helps bring to a close the Royal Australian Mint's Western Front 50c coin series. Featuring Australian soldiers at a machine gun post, each Brilliant Uncirculated coin is housed on a card, and part of a limited mintage of 15,000.
PS. Do not forget the partner coin to this - The Battle of Amiens!
