Perhaps the most famous steam locomotive in Australia, the 3801 visited all main line states and territories during its tenure from 1943 to 1976. After its retirement, 3801 made a special appearance for the 1988 bicentennial celebrations before again leaving the spotlight due to problems with the boiler.
In 2018 Transport Heritage NSW expects to relaunch this titan of Australia's rail past and, as a result, the Royal Australian Mint has released this classic 50c collector coin. Beautifully designed, with the 3801 Locomotive forging ahead at full steam, the 50c also has a swathe of green and gold - the colours that the original engine itself wore. Housed in a full colour presentation card, you will not find this Australian legal tender 50c in your change.
