Coin collecting may not get quirkier than this. Though some might declare the Tax Office as a pest at best, it was in 2010 that the Royal Australian Mint decided to pay tribute to the “Sheriff” of Australian Government – the Australian Tax Office.
It was on the 11th of November 1910 that the Federal Land Tax Branch of the Department of Treasury came into existence in Australia. Today, as the Australian Tax Office, it is the Government’s principal revenue collection agency.
Designed by The Australian Tax Office in consultation with the mint’s designers, the 2010 ATO 20c piece will make an excellent and fun, yet political, addition to any Aussie coin collection.
