An auspicious and historic gold coin, the 1931 Perth Mint sovereign was the last Australian Gold Sovereign to be issued. Following the end of The Great War, the 'Roaring Twenties", and then the Great Depression, Australia joined much of the world in untying its currency from the gold standard and, thus, gold sovereigns were no longer needed for general circulation.
This coin was struck in that final year, 1931, at The Perth Mint and remains in Uncirculated condition. Though sovereigns were issued by both Perth and Melbourne Mints that year, the Melbourne Mint sovereign in this grade is worth more than three times as much! That makes the Perth Mint coin outstanding value!
The end of an era of gold coin production, the 1931P Gold Sovereign is a must have for every Australian coin collector.
