When the original round, silver 50c became far too inefficient to produce, due to the rising precious metal value, the Royal Australian Mint overhauled the then-new decimal coin in 1969. The result? The 12-sided cupro-nickel coin that we know so fondly today. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the dodecagonal 50c, the Royal Australian Mint has compiled five 2019-dated versions of the beloved coin in a special Collector edition Uncirculated set. Featuring all five different Queen’s Effigies to appear since 1969, this set creates several new types that will surely place among the lowest mintages of the 50c series. That limited edition of just 20,000 sets will inevitably disappear, as the 50c remains Australia’s favourite coin to collect! Including a sure-to-be sought after and, frankly, beautiful gold plated coin, this set is loaded with highlights.
