Celebrating its centenary in 2020, Qantas is perhaps the most 'true blue' symbol of Australia for all International travellers. Known globally for its flying kangaroo tail motif, Qantas had its humble beginnings in small town, Winton, in Queensland. Since those days of joy flights, and mail drops, the airline has become a giant of the aviation industry, and this special 11-coin $1 set from the Royal Australian Mint honours this journey of growth and success.
On ten 25mm Aluminium Bronze coins, the story of Qantas is traced through the two founders, all the way through to the massive A380 and the long distance cruiser 787 Dreamliner of today's fleet. The 11th coin, is a very special pure copper, 33mm issue featuring the famous flying kangaroo logo, as inspired by the kangaroo pennies first issued in 1939.
All 11 coins are housed on presentation cards and set together inside a specially created collection box, each Qantas coin set is part of a maximum mintage of 40,000 to be released.
